2)A head gasket is between the head and the block, headers are what caries the exhaust from your head to the exhaust pipe. Our cars had exhaust manifolds stock which aren't maximized for flow like headers are.
3) The Peanut Cam can be found in the lower carbed v8's, TBI v8's, and some tuneport models. It is very mild and has a low redline.
4)This is the air cleaner, if someone puts an open element type cleaner on, the actual filter is exposed instead of having a box around it with a snorkel coming out. Below is a link to an example.

Someone will probably post some better explainatins for some of these, I'm not very good at explaining.

1) Porting is when you grind away material in manifolds or heads to creat a larger area for the intake or exhaust to flow through. Polishing is just that, polishing those passages to promote the smoothest and least restricted airflow.
2)Headers replace stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. If you have the stock manifolds you have a cast iron tube running the length of the head, each cylinders exhaust port dumping into that same pipe, which then continues out the back to the rest of the exhaust. Headers are tubular steel, and each exhaust port has its own tube, which is then smoothly combined with the other tubes. Headers greatly reduce the restriction to exhaust flow, freeing up engine power.
The head gasket is the gasket between the engine block and the cylinder heads. If this blows out, you can have cooling water enter the combustion chamber and have leaks from the combustion chamber itself. Basically the engine will run like crap if this happens.
3) Peanut cam is a slang term for any camshaft with a very weak profile. A cam with low lift, short duration, etc...
4) An open element is an air filter that is exposed, rather than sealed in an airbox. They reduce intake restriction, and for many applications increase power.

PC,
