Buying car with Modified Engine
Hello I'm looking at buying a 91 Camaro RS with the follow for $2000:
ENGINE: 1976 4-BOLT MAIN TRUCK BLOCK 5.7 LITER BORED 40-OVER
CAM DYNAMICS HIGH LIFT HYD CAM & LIFTERS, BILLET ALUM. ROLLER
ROCKERS, NEW FACTORY CAST HEADS WITH 3-ANGLE VALVE JOB, SWIRL
POLISHED VALVES, HIGH PRESSURE SPRINGS, EDLBROCK TORQUER II INTAKE,
1/2 INCH SPACER, HOLLY 750-4BBL CARB (PROGRESSIVE LINKAGE) HIGH
VOLUME/PRESSURE OIL PUMP, HIGH TORQUE MINI STARTER.
TRANS: 700R-4 WITH PERFORMANCE VALVE BODY
REAR: CUSTOM 10-BOLT WITH OVERSIZED AXEL TUBES, LARGE AXELS, 3:73
REAR GEAR ON POSSY SPOOL, AND REAR DISK.
ECM & WIRING HARNESS HAVE BEEN REMOVED.
CAR HAS: MSD IGNITION, COMP-LIGHT DISTRIBUTER, FLEX FAN, PERFORMANCE
WIRES WITH WIRE LOOM.
5" AUTOMETER TACH. WITH SHIFT LITE. AUTOMETER HOT ROD GAUGE SET
(FANTOM WHITE)
I'm gonna be putting a TPI setup on it and re-installing the ecm and the rest of the emissions components. Do you think this is a nice setup? and do you think this is a good deal for $2000(the car needs paint and a new door shell)? Thanks for your input!

If you are going TPI for emmisions reasons, the cost and labor may make it impractical. You will need the proper fuel pump and lines. The cam in that engine is probably not compatible. Headers or manifolds will need air tubes. etc etc. If you don't already have all these parts, add it up, before you jump!

"Possy spool"? Not sure what that is. "Posi carrier" or "spool", but not "posi spool".
"New factory cast heads"? Another "What exactly is that?" thing. Could be nice parts, or real performance-killers.
It sounds like too much money for something that needs that much work.

Thanks for all the input! If $2000 for this car is too steep what would be a good price to offer the guy? and I know everyone says TPI chokes the hell out of a motor but what else could i put on there and stay emissions legal and still be a reliable daily driver? Thanks

camaro, dont even bring that up.... go do a search for carbs Vs. Tpi instead of starting another arguement lol... you arent suffering much gas mileage loss and its not "impossible" to get a carb to pass... yeah its easier with a tpi, but not that hard with a carb. plain n simple!
i would offer the guy 1500 for it with the back-up excuse on it needing the paint... but i'd for sure be happy with 1800 if the engine is what it is

Could be a junkyard 350 with a carb spacer, used Torker II intake, one legger 10 bolt, and had the ECM wiring ripped out.
Just playing devil's advocate....

Hmmm...new factory cast heads...must have bought them from GM and had them polished and had the valve job done...
High pressure valve springs (if it has a cam with big lift)
Oversized axels? I've seen them on off-road trucks, but not on cars...unless the guy was making a track bullet.
I don't know...if I were you, I would ask for specifics before I buy...as far as EFI though...if it runs, don't bother it.
