alt. prolly killed battery?
I got a question. When I turn my key to accessory position it reads around 11-12 volts. But now when I turn the key instead of starting it just woes and the volts go down to the red zone.
Is this my alternator? I just bought a new 80.00 battery so I know its not that. What about my starter could it be my starter?

If the car isn't starting, it could be a bad starter, or worse yet, a froze up engine. Alternator has nothing to do with the voltage drop during starting.

sounds like the batt. has a bad cell (even on new ones) or you have a bad connection, causing a large voltage drop, check the ground and starter connections

Ill check the connections tommorow. My mother got it jumped tonight and even as she was warming it the volts were dropping. Im guessing either like you said its a bad connection, or the alternator is replenishing the volts. Either way I dont think my alt. is good and Im gonna end up buying a new one.

Hey guys I put on a new alternator and the volts shot right up to around 15 again. Wish my luck that it doesnt decide to die again for some odd reason. Thx for the suggestions.
