MAF screens and such
I am taking the screens off my MAF(both of them right?). I was wondering how to go about porting it? Taking off the heat sink. Anyone ever done this? How do I do it? I see the screws to get into it but I don't wanna mess it up. Should I leave this to the pros? Thank you.

I wouldnt even bother messing with it for 3 reasons:
1. Ive heard of too many people having problems after doing so
2. You will not see much of a gain if any at all
3. Messing up = expensive
Do a search you will find plenty of information

I woul dnot mess with your MAF. You can do a lot of damage to it and it may not run right because of the extra air. I geuss the stcok ones aren't that bad to begin with.

ThanX guys for the info. I saw on TPIs and LPE that they sell them modded or send your in for a mod. I wonder why they are modded if they mess up so much. Damnit, I am trying to squeez the poor 305 for power. Oh well. ThanX

The screens are easy to take out, but the heat sink is too close to the wires. I don't regret taking the screens out, but I didn't notice a major power increase. I did it along with other mods based on advice from TPIS.

removing the screens will not negatively impact anything but cutting down the heat sink fins will change the calibration of the the unit requiring reprogramming of the prom to correct. its done by carefully placing tape over the center hotwire tube and then using a hacksaw to cut the fins off. it does increase the flow but in your case not at all necessary or desireable. just pull the screens and call it good.

How do you pull the screens? they look like their frames are molded into the housing.

Pulling the screens can cause some problems. Theyre there to smooth the air and decrease turbulance. Removing them can cause your maf to give odd readings.

i didn't encounter any problems from removing my screens. still runs great. lingenfelter and tpis have been doing it for years with good results. ive heard its a problem with honeycomb type mafs though. taking out the screens increases flow from 529 to 711cfm. cutting out the fins further increases it to around 750 cfm. there's really no finesse involved in removing the screens, just rip em out.
