This question refers to my 92 305 TPI and my buddies POS 93 3.1 V6. How does oil build up in the intake? It does not seem to make intuitive sense to me. My cars plenum was coated with a think carbon residue, but my buddies car had oil leaking out of the intake from the throttle body when he turned the car off. I assume what caused the carbon in my car was the EGR valve, but what could cause oil to come up into the intake like that? Bad valve stem? Why would the oil and carbon not get sucked into the cylinders? How could the oil come all the way up to the throttle body?

Most likely blowby gasses returning up the PCV vent tube to the throttle body. Thats a sign of excessive ring wear and poor sealing, or excessive boost pressure from a blower or turbo.

Mine = 22 thousand
His = 89 thousand, the last 100 miles with out much oil in the crankcase and overheating.
