I removed the belt running it and the AC and heater worked fine.
Hope i helped
oop, you have a 92? don't they have serpintine belt systems? I have a 1986 with the older V-belt setup, so it was easy for me to drop the belt.

Christos is right, a 92 does have a serpentine setup. Meaning that you can't just remove the belt. But you can still remove the air pump. I believe there is an article somewhere on this webpage that tells how to do it by getting a shorter belt and rerouting it. Removing the pump won't gain you much horsepower, and it could cause a problem passing emissions, especially since one look under the hood will reveal a disabled emissions system. But I went ahead and took the air pump off my 91 just because it helped to clean up the engine bay. It's a lot easier to change those sparkies now. Other than passing emissions, I don't see any adverse effects of removing the pump. Mine's been gone for two years, and I haven't had a problem.
The only problem it may cause later is to clog the catalytic converter. You will notice a major power loss. Headers will possibly glow red if the engine is left running. Just as a precaution, go ahead and gut the catalytic converter. More info on how to do this in Exhaust section.

A properly running engine does not need the AIR pump. My 83 GP with CCCS passed dyno and idle e-tests with no air pump.
You could potentially clog the cat if you do too much short trip driving, as in those situations, fuel can get 'stuck' in the cats beds, then later on when it gets to full operating temperature the fuel burns melting the cat.
I do agree with the others, removing the AIR pump looking for HP isn't the way to go. Removing the AIR pump to have one less piece of **** in your way when you work on your car is.
