What do you guys think
As some of you may know I have been in the process of building a new motor for my car. Bussiness hasnt been good in the past few months so I havent made much progress on the engine. All I have done is assembled the short block with everything internally plus a new oil pump, pan, and a new balancer and timing chain. Well I have been set on getting vortec heads for this car but I just havent been able to find the deal I want on them, so I have been looking at some old camel hump heads instead and i was wondering what you guys think about it. Heres what my combo was going to be:
010 350 stock internally except cam
9:3:1 compression w/ stock vortec heads
Comp cams XE256 cam
1.5 roller rockers
Performer RPM intake
Holley street avenger carb
1 5/8 headers into 3'' exhaust
Now with that setup Desktop Dyno gives me 330 hp and 400 tq if I remember correctly. What do you guys think my numbers would be with these heads http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2467958773 I also was wondering if I am going to be able to run my serpintine setup on these heads. Oh and my girlfriend already bought me proform self aligning rocker arms so what would it take for me to run them on these heads. Sorry for the long post please let me know what you think about this and if you can think of anything I missed. I appreciate it guys.

I'm sure there will be someone who can give you a more complete answer than I can, but I'll tell you what I know anyhow.
I replaced a set of swirl port heads with a set of 041 heads a while ago, and there was a nice improvement. 041 heads are similar to, but not quite as high performance as the double hump heads, the chamber vol and design is the same on both and the fuelie heads have bigger valves and better ports, but they're still not as good as Vortecs, from what I've been hearing.
Like yourself, I just put on what I could afford, and I wasn't disappointed. But I'm looking forward to upgrading to something better someday.
I used a Comp 256 cam with that combo as well.
It has a smooth idle, lots of bottom end, it pulls well to over 5000 rpm and gets good mileage.
I kinda think you'll be happy with it... until you compare it to something better.
For the serp belt setup there are some holes missing, but the holes that are in there already are the same bolt pattern as the later heads (I'm pretty sure), so you might have to drill and tap a couple holes. If you aren't using A/C, possibly you can get by without adding new holes. Cause the A/C compressor is the thing that really needs the extra hardware to mount.
The self aligning rockers can only be used if you enlarge the pushrod slots in the heads.
That's an easy mod with a drill press. You'll have to enlarge the slots to about a 5/8" round hole and then do a mock assembly and check for interference.
I never dyno'd my combo so I can't be of any help there. It's a pretty torquey combo tho.
Have Fun!
Hey! I sat in my car today and pretended I was driving it. ...Maybe this summer

You can't mount the accessories on there. There's no metal to drill & tap, and the thin little metal that's there is in the wrong plane.
That's why those heads are so cheap these days.... they don't fit anything.
If yo want to run double-hump heads, the 041s would be a good choice, or 186s, or 292s (! you won't get those for cheap), or 492s. All of those are better heads than those old early 60s ones. Here's what to look for. These are 186s. Notice the boss where the boltholes are. One thing you can't see, is that there's metal behind there for a bolt hole to go into.

I ended up being contradicted before I even had a chance to finish my post.
About the bolt holes, mine was for a truck and I was able to mod the 041s to work with the serp belt bracket, but that was with A/C removed. That's all I can tell you with any real certainty.
Keep shopping for a set of later 64cc heads, there seem to be some deals on those every so often.
They'll work out if you can get some with the bolt bosses.

I am just tired of looking at my car in the driveway. Its been 5 months since Ive driven it. AAHHHHHHHHHH!!! its driven me nuts. Thanks for the help guys.

Alright I found another set of heads aswell:

What you guys think? I am a little weary of buying these because of the 58 cc combustion chambers but They are still a good deal and since they handle .510 lift I can use 1.6 roller rockers and raise the lift on my cam like .25. So let me know what you think.
