Im not sure of the part number, mine is a 1pc seal. The engine isnt running yet, but the gasket looks and fits great, I dont see how you can go wrong with a 1pc gasket over the older stock style.

Never heard anything bad about 1 piece oil pan gaskets. I only wish I used one when I assembled my block.

whats the difference between 74 and below and 75-85? are the 75-85 blocks the pass side dipstick 2 piece blocks? what other differences are there for the oil pan? I know the 305 in my dads el camino has the pass side dipstick.....

not sure if it's the dip stick location or the height of the timing cover lip, or both.

Yeap 'ede' I think it does have something to do with the lip height in the front.

AS far as the dipstick, I think that's the pre/post 1980 deal.
As far as the pan gasket goes, there's probably a swoop on the passenger side regaurdless of pre/post 80'. Since the pre '80 driver side dipstick goes into the block you don't need a swoop on the driver side, but with the post '80 block where the dipstick goes directly into the pan, you diffently need that little swoop.

don most i've ever run was around 30,000 miles on a 4.3 with no problems. i know in the big picture 30,000 miles isn't all that much on an engine or gasket.

hmm, here i am still using cork valve cover gaskets and oil pan gaskets. They never leak, so I wont bother changing.

I dont have one leak with my one piece gasket although my friend did but it turned out to be an installation error as one of the edges was folded over.
