want a new cam

im starting to look for a new cam for my current motor. right now i have a comp 270H cam. i like how the car runs right now, but i want some more power from this motor since my new motor wont be done until this winter.

my current setup is a 350 +.040
9.5 compression
fully ported and polished heads
comp 987 springs
weiand stealth intake fully ported
holley 650
full exhaust

i made nearly 300 whp with this cam, and around 350 Tq.

what cam can i go with to give me some more power with out revving the engine past 6500?

i've always loved the sounds of the comp xe cams, would one of them work well with my setup?

is there any other mods i would have to do to run a bigger cam?

Do you want to stay with a Hydraulic flat tappet? Is the change to a hyrdra. roller out of the question? What are your rear gears and transmission? Do you by chance have flow data on the heads?

If you really want to go past 6500 rpm, I'd reccomend considering solid lifters.

The problem with that though, is that they never seem to get along with engine computers very well. The tapping drives the knock sensor crazy.

if i was having a new engine built this winter, i'd put more money into suspension or other things rather than spend time/money on a cam swap.

i want to stay with hydraulic flat tappets since this is supposed to be some a cheaper HP gain, since the retro roller setup wont be cheap. i want to stay below 6500 rpms since the bottom end of this motor is completly stock except for the bearings. i dont want such a radical cam that the car wont idle.

i have 4.10 gears now, but i want to go back to a 3.73 and a 5 speed....sorry i should of posted that originally

the only suspension mods left for me are a new tq arm, and a roll cage.

i dont have the flow numbers on the heads, but they should be enough to run low 12's i think. is there a cam that i could get that would give me more power with about the same rpm as the comp 270h cam? and still idle decent

XE 268 will be about perfect. Any larger and you won't really gain anything, just lose a lot.

by losing alot i take it you mean "streetablity"?

will a xe268 cam be worth the effort, or will i only see 5-10 hp from the swap?

if you're only going to run low 12's, skip the cage.
more money in your pocket, less weight in the car.

Change to Lunati/Ultradyne cam# 301B3LUN
You can find the specs on the Holley site.
Change to a Edelbrock Vic JR. manifold.
Port match the intake to your ported heads.

Just changing from a Comp Magnum 270H to a Comp Extreme XE268 is not going to get you much.

Well, what do you really want, to be faster in the 1/4 mile or have the car be fast and feel fast on the street?

the car made 295 hp and 358 tq last year....and now i have a ported to the max stealth intake. it should make a few more hp now. i really didnt want to get into changing intakes again since i just spent a lot of money to have mine ported. i like the looks of that lunati cam.

dur 231/239
lift .485/.507
lobe seperation is 108

how will that idle? below 1000 rpm? will i gain any power with this cam if i keep my intake?

remember i dont want to spend a lot of money since this engine will only be in my car until this winter
