Replacing fuel pump...anything i should watch out for?

Im going to be replacing the fuel pump this weekend. Is there any problems or anything i might watch out for? Anything that came up unexpected for anyone??Thanks guys.

I just did my fuel pump swap last weekend. Nothing unexpected, just about 10 hours of work. I suggest raising the rear of the car as far up as you can, disconnect the exhaust at the catalytice converter, drop the rear end by removing the shocks, traction bar, etc. and than just pull the exhaust out once you drop the rear end. I think that's the best way to do it. Its pretty straighforward, nothing unexpected where i had to run to the autostore for special parts or anything. If your tank is full, you might want to get a syphoning kit, cause i just used my mouth to suck on the hose in the gas tank, and it wasn't very pleasant - but worked good. Dropping the tank isn't that bad if you lift your car enough.

yeah if its fuel injected then its going to be FUN... you have to move the exhaust,drop most of the back suspension componets,shocks have to drop,then comes the gas tank thats worlds of FUN!!if its got any gas in it RUN IT OUT FIRST!!, even then its a bitch to get the tank out you'll have to bend the filler neck and then try and twist the tank sort fo to get it out!! F U N!!!!

it took me about 10 mins to get the tank out once i had all the bolts off and another 10 to put it back in. Just make sure you raise your back end high enough and you'll be fine. also, you will have to disconnect the brake line when you drop the differential. If you did not have to disconnect it after you dropped the diff. then it probably means that you don't have enough room to take the tank out and you should lift the car up some more.

Get a roto zip and cut a hole in the top of the rear section above the tank. Replace pump. Put some hinges on the cut out metal and tape it well when replacing. Replace carpet and NEVER have to worry about dropping the tank again. Just open the whole backup when you need a new pump. It works fine.

I wouldn't suggest things like that without a warning of a possible explosion. You are gonna be making a lot of sparks right above the gas tank. Have a fire extinguisher handy if you decide to do it that way.

Try not to re-use the stock "pulsator", between the fuel pump and the fuel sending unit (where the pump attaches). The seals in it can leak over time, and cause pressure to drop. I found this out AFTER re-using my stock pulsator! I wondered why that hose and self-tightening clamps came with the fuel pump...

Search the TPI board for "pulsator", you'll find a bunch of info on it.
