OK to put a used roller cam into a new motor?

I was wondering if it would hurt anything if I put a used LT4 HOT CAM in my new ram jet crate motor with Fast Burn Heads. Do I have anything to worry about? Roller cams dont really wear down do they?

Generally roller cams dont wear much, so it should be fine. With any used part you are taking a risk if you dont know its history, but then again I've seen quite a few new parts that werent a whole lot better. For peace of mind you could check the lobes and journals visually for wear or damage (good idea) and if you happen to have a micrometer you can find out just how much wear there is. The lobes are where most of the wear occurs in any cam, so take a good look at them to make sure they arent rounded off or anything.
Curious, if you are getting a ram jet, which I am pretty sure isnt cheap, why dont you just throw an extra 200 bucks at it (or maybe less, I havent kept track of hot cam prices).

In case you want a second opinion, madmax is correct.

Well, the main reason I dont just "throw another 200 bucks at it" is I am trying to help a buddy out. He has the LT4 HOT CAM that came out of his car and he needs the cash. I know the history of the cam. Its got about 7000 miles on it. He only wants $75 for it, so I figured I would just buy his.

Hell yes! The LT4 HOT cam in a Ram Jet engine with Fast Burn heads is the 430 HP ZZ430 engine! Your car should scream!

Thats what Im hoping for. I hope it will be enough to put the car into the 12s with the stock gears (3.27s) and good traction. I am hoping for around 110 mph but Im not sure if I will get it or not. Its gonna have a T56 behind it also.

You may need bigger injectors the ZZ430 RamJet is supposed to have 24lb SVO injectors. They also have different programming. Being a marine engine ECM though the maximum RPM it can handle is 6300 and thats with different programming, I think the stock RJ350 crate comes with 5500? not quite sure. I really like the RJ system though. Not sure why it comes with Fastburn heads the camshaft is tiny and can't use the full potential of the heads. The vortec heads should perform the same, even with the Hot cam.
BTW has anyone seen or have the Edelbrock E-tec heads? They are vortec/fastburn design. My cost is $850 a pair assembled, hmmm
