What is a 427?
Is a 427 and a 454 just a 400 core stroked with different length rods & or crank?

Theres a 427 big block (the true 427 designate) and a 427 small block (427 stroker motor).
The big block is a 4.25" bore x 3.76" stroke.
The small block is a 4.125" bore x 4.00" stroke.

doubt if it's really part of your question but ford also has a 427. chevy has two 427s, tall deck truck engines that are basically junk for preformance applications and the standard deck car engine.

Ford's 427 is not really a 427 though. Its a 425. And their 428, which actually is a 427, is the same bore/stroke as a 427 stroker small block chevy.
The tall deck big blocks (427s anyway) are good for racing use, but too expensive to build for the street, compared to a regular big block.
