Right now my car has a 305tbi. Im going to be putting a 350tpi in it (probably with a mild cam and new or ported heads). my question is, can I put 145mph gauges in and still have accurate readings?

I just did this yesterday! And yes, it is a the most direct swap there every was or will be. I was even able to use my original odometer. If you want to do this, unscrew the 3 screws on the face plate of the original speedo and slowely take the odometer out with some needle-nose pliars. Do the same with the one from the 145 speedo and then just swap them out. But be very careful. I attempted to take apart my 115 speedo and do it that way, but I ended up completetly destroying it. It now makes a nice wall decoration.

The only problem you may have is people questioning the accuracy of the miles on your car. Otherwise it is plug and play. I had no idea that you could swap odometers like that. Now you can tell people you have the origonal odometer and replacment speedo.

 

I had a 145mph speedo in mine for awhile. Everything worked fine except the speedo. It was 10mph off but I think it just needed calibrated. The speedo always read 10mph even when I was stopped lol.

I'd like to get another 145 cluster but I think I will go ahead and get a convan classics cluster thing and full it with autometer sport comp gauges

 

That sounds normal. Our speedos are horrible off especialy as speeds increase. You cannot really calibrate them.

 

Mine was also off by 10 mph when I switched to a 140 speedo. My buddy pulled the needle off and replace at the 0 mph spot on the gauge. Now it is pretty close to correct

 

I'm hoping some autometer gauges will make it more accurate. I got a autometer water and oil pressure guage already. Stock oil pressure gauge showed 40 at idle at cold startup...autometer shows 65psi...

Water temp on stock gauge was 160 degrees...autometer is showing a steady 182 degrees.

 

Thanx for the replies. I'll try this sway another time. My car is heating up WAY to fast ; think its the thermostat. So the gauges will have to wait. I'll probably get a 145mph cluster off ebay and some glow gauges from this one site.

 

Wow! I had absolutely no problems installing mine. It is completely accurate, all the gauges work... works fine.
