new 305 with 100 miles on it....runs hot

took my freshly remanufactured 305 z28 out for a drive today and to try and break her in.....everything in my car was replaced from the radiator to the rear end.....my question is on the way back with the air on of course it was creepin to 230 degrees
or so....turned air off and still kept cliiming.. is it running hot cause the new engine is still tight....just wondering..thanks for the help

do you have electric fans on it or a belt ran fan? ....it shouldnt run hot even being brand new ...it should run normal

has stock electric fan......runs at 195 - 210 without ac....and the motor has that water thin break in oil......and not to mention white smoke at idle...???

Sometimes a new engine will run a little hotter, but it shouldnt be overheating, if that makes any sense.

damn, just saw that white smoke at idle thing, sounds like you are burning coolant. Check for headgaskets leaking, or something along those lines.

Yep, white/grayish smoke indicates that coolant is getting in to the combustion chamber. Do a compression or leak down test on all 8 and get an indication of whats going on.

ok i have been reading and this is what i hope it is.......i hope the smoke is blue and
the rings are just not set in yet....and it has been bored .30 over so thats why it runs warmer......to be continued will let u know....

thanks for all the replies after spending all this money to revive my z28 we all want it perfect...right...lol

My generic advice, in these situations, is to
take the thermostat out, run the car a few minutes,
and tell the forum what happened.
There is no reason for overheating, in this matter.

i'd double check for leaks, timing, and A/F mixture. besides the compression test you might want to look for combustion gas in the coolent.

replaced radiator cap and doesnt overheat now.........but still blue smoke at idle...? is that break in oil they use the way to go or not??
