car cutting out at around 5000 rpm any ideas?

ive got the 6aL and msd timming retard box this jus started recently and it seems when it cuts out my tach jumps all around "kinda of like a short" any ideas?

I'm not totally sure if I am reading you right, but if you say you put in an MSD and now when the tach goes all the way it just drops or pops around this is common. MSD actually makes a tach compensation box that fixes this. It's easy to hook up and cost about 40 bucks. I'm sorry but I don't know the part number or exact name. Call Summit and I am sure they can set you up with the right part.

no ive had the msd a while my car is acutally cutting out "missing" around 5000rpm but everything below that is fine later

Check your fuel filter. Could be really dirty and not flowing as much fuel. Also might want to check for arc around the distrib. Another test would be to run the car up to where it misses and try and keep it up there for a couple seconds then pull the plugs, if it's a wet black then it isn't the fuel delivery problem but definatly a spark problem, if it's dry black then it's a fuel delivery problem.
