Do I stand a chance against this Trans Am????
Do I stand a chance against this Trans Am????
This guy at school has a 95 Trans Am (No ram air) with the following:
LT1 engine, 6-speed manual trans, K&N Air Filter, New Injectors (High Performance, not sure what kind or flow rate), Throttle Body Air Foil, High Performance suspension springs, Borla Cat-Back Exhaust, 4.10 Posi rear
I will have the following on my 84 Camaro in a month or so:
355 MAF TPI motor, forged aluminum pistons, adjustible fuel pressure regulator, Crane Compucam Camshaft (214/220 duration @.050" 2000-5500 RPM range), Custom "Ram Air" with K&N's, Hooker Headers, 3" High Flow Cat, 3" Hooker Cat Back, 700R4 trans with a high performance torque converter (not sure stall speed yet), 3.23 Posi rear
I know I have a ton more done to my car, but he's got an LT1 with a 6-speed. Keep in mind that he is 16 years old, so I don't know how good his shifting is, but he could be real good. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I think you will get drilled if he can drive; I'd guess his car is a good .3 and 5 mph faster than yours, maybe more.
But don't let it bother you. Have fun, do the best you can, race fairly, be safe, win or lose graciously. Every race has both a winner and a loser, and there's no shame in getting beaten in a well-run race. Work on your driving technique so that you force his car to beat your car, rather than it being a case of him beating you, or worse yet, you beating yourself.
But don't worry about what people on this board say, go race him and tell us what happened. And remember: it's supposed to be fun!!

It sounds more like a toss-up and a bit in your direction being the kid is 16, and probably can not drive. If only you had aftermarket heads it'd be so much easier....

he probably cant break into the 13's and will most likely click off a 14.2-3 with his mod. Its essential that you get the jump, that will be where he will roast his tires.

With a shiftkit, TPI mods and his set-up he ought to break 13's atleast. Look at my car and I hit 13.98.

But really, if you look at it, he doesn't really have much engine work done. A K&N and an airfoil won't provide that much power. And with the new injectors he has, they wouldn't do much for him, because he doesn't really have the engine to harness the ability of those injectors. Am I right? Or am I ust talking out of my a$$? What do you think my car would do in the 1/4 just out of curiousity? Thanks again guys.

Go race.
Your car should be in the 14.7 range; his car should be 14.3 or so. You're down about 25-30 HP to him.
You will win if he lights up his tires at the start. Practice your starting line technique: that's where the race will be won or lost. The way to start the best, is to hold your left foot on the brake as hard as you can so the car doesn't move; with teh car in gear, rev the engine up to the converter stall speed, or just below (you can figure this out with a little practice); at the start, release the brake suddenly, and ease into the gas as fast as you can without breaking the tires loose. If he spins and you hook, he'll be seeing nothing but your tail lights for a long way down the track.
This is going to be at the track I hope?
