first thing i'd do is look and see if you messed something up when you changed the filter, knock something loose or unplug a hose

Sounds to me like one or more cylinders might not be firing.

Check for a plug wire knocked loose like ede suggested. If they're all on there where they belong, wait until the car is cold,; start it up and let it run for about 15 or 20 seconds; and take a detergent bottle or something and squirt a little water on each of the exhaust manifold or header tubes and see which one(s) fail to get hot, that's where the problem is.

I have to definately agree with RB83L69.That sounds exactly right on the money if you ask me,I know that when i had a couple lose plug wires that my car sounded like sh@t.And another time my friend who said he had the GM firing order rememberized, put my wires back on the distributor for me and he mixed up my firing order.Id check the firing order and make sure it right, make sure all your wires are on the cap and plugs snug, and also look into gettin a new cap, rotor and wire then if that dont cure it.Try pulling your plugs too and see if any looked fouled for any reason.Bye the way, what kind of wires and ciol you running? And do you have anything done to the car, performance wise?

Stand behind at idle and if your eyes water then fuel isn't being burned so you're not running on all cylinders. Check to see if all your wires are good. If you have bad arc then your car will run like crap and stall and will miss a lot. Another thing to check is the cat. It can cause lots of power loss and make your exhaust sound funny. Let us know what the problem is when you find out.
