quick question on steel braided hoses

To attach the hose end connectors to the hose do you have to remove the steal braided cover from the part inserted into the conector? i cant seem to get it to fit with the cover on. also are there any tircks i should know for connecting a similarr addapter to a solid line. These are all for fuel plumbing, for my HSR.

Thanks for the help,
Eli

no you don't need to remove the stainless braid. i use crimp on ends, cheaper and easier, but not reusable.

I had a hell of a time getting my ends all the way on too.

So i decided to heat up the ends while partially on the hose a bit to see if that would make it any easier.

It did...i had the end about half way on and couldnt get them to seat all the way in...so i just heated it up with a lighter a bit..and i guess it made the hose a little softer and it slide the rest of the way in...

whether thats the proper way or not..it worked for me

i wrap the stainless end with 2 wraps of electrical tape.keeps the wire from fraying.you can remove the tape with needle nose after the outside fitting is on.

Squeeze the braid in a little bit with a hose clamp while you put the end on.

hey another question, for starters i got them on but do you have to be able to get the electrical tape off, because i dont know if i can? and also to cut the braided line should you snip it use a cut off disk to cut it or use some kind of band saw to cut it cleanly?

thanks again

Aeroquip fittings NOT Russel or Earl. Been there done that as everything in my car is now AN fittings, fuel, tranny, brakes. Brand DOES make a difference. I just did the electrical tape and diegrinder with cut-off wheel. the Aeroquip female end that goes over the braided hose is just a wee bit bigger than the other brands and makes screwing them on the braided 50x's easier. Would've been 100x's easier but it was muggy and the sweat kept getting in my eyes!

I always removed the tape before I threaded the ends on the braided hose. Personally had great luck with the cut off wheel. Just be sure to blow out the lines before connecting.

When i did my tranny lines i used a line cleaner solvent to make sure there was nothing in them. This also seemed to make the lines slide in to the fittings much easier.
