How can I make the engine run on its own?
Ok I have been having minimal progress on trying to splice this whole project of mine together.
83 TA with 88 MAF swapped in
I want to be able to power the computer and engine relays ect. seperatly. I have concluded that wiring it through the other mess of wires is just a waste of time. What I need to know is where to fuse things and where to power them from safely. I posted this in electronics too cause it's fitting. Just trying to get as much input as possible.

I would think anything other than a factory harness would be a waste of time.
But, I'm pretty lazy.

What other mess of wires?
In your 83 car, take the harness out that goes from the ECM to the engine. That would be starting at the ECM, through the windshield cowl behind the right kick panel, and out to the motor. Remove all of the sensors and things that are different between carb and TPI, plug them into the harness. Every single wire, every device, without cutting anything, just peel them all back and coil the whole thing up in a box. Replace it with the harness for the TPI motor. Done.
What's so tough about that? I can't think of any other possible approach that would be any easier.

the aldl is pinned differently, We tried hooking them right up, but major spots were not pinned like the electric fans and other sorts of fuel injection related stuff. I already have the relays on the engine and the harness going through the door and the ecm mounted. There is also a fusible link that is split and I don't know what is supposed to power it. Can I run this stuff off the battery?

Use the dash harness from the TPI car, too.
That's what I did for my V6 to V8 swap.

There's really not that much difference from an 83 V8 4bbl model and an 88 V8 port injected model. Yes, the ALDL is different. Yes, the dash to ECM harness pinouts are different.
With an 88 harness, you can basically eliminate a few things so that its' an 87 harness. 85-87 harnesses were standalone ECM harnesses.
Get a spare ALDL from a junkyard, unpin a few wires, and add them to your ALDL, and route things like an 88 would have them.
I made a harness for my L69 / Auto car to hook up the 86 LB9 / Auto harness. I ran pin 1 to pin 1 in the interim harness if appropriate. I ran pin 2 to wherever in the dash it needed to go if appropriate. Less hacking, and when I got to swapping things, it went easy.
If you don't have a service manual with wiring schematics, you'll be banging your head against a wall for a while. Get one. An 86, 87, or 88 would work, frankly.

great! I think i will be heading to a certain boneyard tomorrow then. I know of a place where they have 305 TPI harnesses. I am sure the underdash that i need is still intact. Actually lots of the TPI itself are even still there. Wish me luck. And thanks a ton! Coming soon another f-body back on the road! I will keep you guys updated.

ok i got the wires, the to connectors that go to the aldl. I traced them as far as i could but couldn't get to the fuse panel. I actually broke alot of stuff trying to get access. Here is a picture. What i need to know is what powers these and how much, fuses ect. Like i said i couldn't get all the way to the fuse panel and all im stuck with is extra wiring, fortunatly they are the right color and the connectors should be pinned right. I believe they came from an 87 or 88.

we got the wires all hooked in, we got the fuel coming in, just no crank now... hmmm time to search.
Until I get a jack things are on hiatus. I do know that the fuel pump is priming, so I have fuel, I am getting a steady 12 volts when the car is on. Shouldn't be long until this thing is moving. Still stumped on why it won't crank, I had it cranking once before. Wish me luck.
