Somebody says I can't use these tires.

When I was at Costco looking at the price of tires he said he wouldn't sell me P245/50R16 or anything similar because I have a base camaro.
He said something about the car not handling it or something.

I don't believe it... but... Does he know what he is talking about?

no, he does not know what he is talking about. if you have the 16x8 wheels, those tires will fit fine. the 245/50's came on the z28 and the 235/55 came on the rs as far as i know. the tires are almost the same and the wheels for the z and the rs are the same.

they(common auto stores) wont install tires of different size(like if you wanted 245s on the back, and 225's on the front) and i believe they wont install anything but factory sizes also.. its quite annoying, so if you ahve to, just get the tires there, and take them to a garage and say you want them put on.

Do that if Costco are being ******. They only make money on the install labor. I know, I work for them.

I have never heard anything so ridiculous. Now, if you were trying to install those on 15" rims, I can see their point. But, if you have the proper 16" rims, they will work just fine.

I should add, that your speedo may not read correctly though. GM put different combinations of speedo gears in various F-bodies depending on the tires that were installed stock on the car. I just thought I should warn you about that part.

not to sound like an *** or anything, but if someone refuses to sell you something, go somewhere else. kinda reminds me of someone claiming to not be able to insure an iroc because it was too fast. just go somewhere else if they are giving you a hassle.

Just look at the moron telling you the BUll.S**T to shove his head up his giant intellect. If he is stupid enough to hand you that kind of crap, I wouldn't want that fool working on my car!

Well, almost. Some of the steering boxes had different ratios, and some of the cars had different stabilizer bars, and some had different springs, but none of this will affect the fit of the tires.

Just make certain you have wheels with the correct offset on both the front and rear. The front wheels and tires have very little room for extra travel with 16x8" wide wheels and 245/50 tires. It is very easy to get interference from the brake anchor bracket, steering arms on the spindles, and the ends of the stabilizer bars. You must have the offset correct on the front to clear everything. The rear axle is a lot more forgiving, but if you want an equal track on the front and rear you really need to install two different offset wheels on teh front and rear. Check the Tech Section for correct offsets.

If you showed them a set of wheels that would cause problems and asked to have the tires mounted on them, I could understand why they would have been wary. If that were the case, they could have at least explained why they thought the fit would be bad. It sounds more like they were just being too generic, and might not have known the differences that exist anyway.

My camaro's 15 inch wheels + tires are the same diamater as my formula's 16 wheels + tires, about 24? inches. 245 50 16 will work.

F##k that guy! I'm running 245/60 R15's on stock rims, and have no problems at all. In fact, I think it handles better that stock! Just get a set of BFG T/A's from tirerack.com or something in the size you want. Have someone mount them, then ****** up that knucklehead and take him for a spin!

Its an insurance issue. The car didnt come with those oem (your car is not an Iroc right?). Some places like sams costco ****-mart, wont put them on because they feel its a liability. They usually wont put a tire on that has less of a speed rating then the car came with also.

Keith, the stock 215/65/15s are slightly taller than the stock 245/50/16s. (About 1/2 taller). That is why when BOTH had 2.73s, both had a 17 tooth Drive Gear, but the 215/65/15s had a 37 tooth Driven Gear and the 245/50/16s had a 38 tooth Driven Gear.

225/60/15s are the same height as 245/50/16s, but 225/60/15s weren't stock.

1.6% difference in speedometer. so what is that 1.6 mph when you're going 100mph?
