It will work if it is the correct type ie hydraulic flat-tappet, hydraulic roller... But the real question is it a good idea? Is it i don't know what cam is it?

Thank for the advice, its a small Isky 256 hudralic out of a 350. Not to big of a deal. Its not a monster, just a little more power, and I would be able to benefit from the name, all my friends want Iskys', so it would be cool to use. Thanks, any more advice, I'm a rook at this stuff.

Alright, thanks alot. I do have one more question, why are self-aligning rollor-rockers considered smog illegal?

Yeah man, I agree, but according to Yearone, and other performance mags. a set of GM self alligning rollar rockers has the number 3 marked next to them, which is for off road use only, so beats me, I cant see how rockers would cause any smog harm.

They won't cause and smog problems, they just say that because they didn't come stock on older engines.

Going out on a limb here, is this the 256 Supercam (part number 201256)? If so, yes it will be ok (performance wise) in a 305.

Just make sure you match up the lifters with the lobe on the cam the same as they were on the 350. If you mixed them up you will need new lifters. It usually not a good idea to reuse a used flat-tappet cam.

Yes hydraulic flat-tappet cam. So i'm guessing you will need new lifters, because i bet he didn't keep them in order.

Yeah, probably, thats ok though, I'm re-doing my whoal head set-up, new rockers, springs, rods, lifters, etc. So Its not that big of a deal to me, got any suggestions on reputable brands?

If i were me i would never reuse a used flat-tappet cam! Cams are cheap and there is no reason to put your engine at risk. If it goes bad you will have metal every where in the engine and it will cost alot to replace stuff. Not worth the risk IMHO.

What I dont get though is, I just got done looking at the specs on the cam from Isky, and it sais the idle on it is real smothe, barely noticable. The power it adds isnt very much, yet its not smog legal, why?

Because the did not file for a CARB license and number. This costs lots of money for the manufactor to do, but insures that they are 50 state legal. They test the part and make sure that it does not ruin the emissions compliance.

Oh, so it may not be registered as an emissions legal part, but the probability that such a small cam would pass is pretty good huh.

Isky, to me, is more of the race cam company. That is where they got their rep from IMO. Like ME Leigh said about the emissions stuff, it probably wouldn't be worth their time to go through all the CARB legality crap for just a few cam grinds. But with even the slightest tune, the 256 would have no problem passing.
Don't worry, I love Isky. I have their solid roller stuff.
all my friends want Iskys', so it would be cool to use.
