WTF IS THIS???? (picture)

i just switched columns in my car because of wobble, got all electronics done and now i have a spare part, everything works in the car, i dont get it....what is this thing ? i took it out of my old column and cant find a spot in my new one



PS what does IMO mean? i guess i missed that day on the forums when it was invented

That looks like the steering wheel lock cable. The other end should connect to the shifter.

but my new column doesnt have the spot my older one did, i dont even see a spot......is it when i wouldnt be able to turn my wheel....in like.....park?

That is the park/lock cable that hooks into the ignition switch on the steering column.

If it was me i would probably say screw it. But if it was a problem later or i didn't like it i would fix it.

thats what im thinking, screw it, its something that stops me from shifting while the key is in certain positions.......thanx trickster and to all others who responded, but yeah, im just going to tape it up somewhere under the dash. thanx guys

yeah everything works trickster, everything on the new column, so i dont think its a big problem

Actually with it disconnected, you can run the shifter through its places with the key out of the lock cylinder. That was one of its functions, to prevent the shifter from being moved out of the park position without the key turned to the on position.

i could do that with the old column though..... i remember not having my keys with me and shifting into neautral to let the car caost down the drive way for a sec, then putting it back into park
