Changing pushrods

Hi , my 89 l98 iroc is making a clattering sound from underneath the valve covers. I am pretty sure i have bent pushrods. I ran it at the track and after one of my runs I had the noise. It scared me so I havnt driven it since. I poked around with a piece of hose listening for it and its right under the valve covers. It turns out i blew a bunch of my oil out the egr valve or something and ran a little low. I dont have the money to build a new engine just yet so im gonna try to just replace the pushrods. Is there anything else i should be on the look out for? Any helpful hints on replacing these things? I dont see how to get the valve covers off with so much stuff in the way. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

hey Mike, i've been in your position

the driver side valvecover comes off fairly easily, just disconnect the PCV valve and unbolt the valve cover and you should be able to work it loose.. if i remember correctly there are some hoses in the way that you have to move so you can remove it..

the passenger side is a different story... the AIR tube severely hampers any effort you'll make to lift the cover out. i had to bend the s h i t out of the tube (ie. bend it up) so that i could get it off. i used the mechanic's best friend (ie. huge a s s screwdriver) to pry it up, i DID pry it back down after, with no ill-effects. the passenger side also has those coolant lines, those are rough..

just work at it, don't force the s h i t out of it and you'll have them off in about an hour

hope this helped, i can go look at my car further if you need a better description of what to do. if i don't reply back today email me at admin@IROC-Z.org and i'll reply (i post all over and don't see some posts)

ttyl man,
Colin

Before You go replacing pushrods, make sure that They are the problem.

First, I don't think you blew oil out Your EGR Valve.

Secondly, I doub't you bent a pushrod. If you ran it hard W/o sufficent oil, You are more likely to have Damaged a rocker, Lifter, Or the valve tip ( whatever that is called, haha ) the only Way your gonna be able to tell Is have a Look.

You Said you were Racing, If you rev'ed the Motor Too High For the stock valvetrain ( not hard to do ) Then You Could have Got some Float goin On, and then You open up a whole wolrd of possbilitys For ****ed up parts.

Bent pushrods, tweaked rockers, broken valves, bent valves, broken springs, retainers, locks, collapsed lifters, ECT.

So What Did You Do ? how high did You shift at ? How many miles on the motor ect.
