car wont start after running and will after it cools down

ok chekc it out. I have a 1990 Camaro RS 5.0L 5-speed. Here is my problem: After my car runs for a while and gets warm (and sometimes hot since my fan comes unwired) it wont start like a few minutes after. I have to get a push a popo the clutch to get it going again. or i just have to wait on it to cool down a start. Now I think this is a clutch start switch problem but I'm not too sure. Beacause other times I can leave the key in the ignition for a min or two it will do the same thing as when it gets hot. So I'm stumped. But when the car is running, it runs well. any help would be great!!!!!

This sounds like multiple problems.

For one, your starter solenoid is probably getting heat soaked. Do some searching on "remote starter solenoid" and look in the tech articles section for more on this. I've done it one two of my thirdgens and it fixed both of their hot-start problems.

Basically, you install a remote starter solenoid to avoid the heat down by the exhaust manifolds.

ok so whack it with a hammer? i dont know if i wanna do that. but i will search the forums on remote starter solenoid... how difficult is that to do because im not that good at working with cars althouhg i know and can do more than the average guy. is it very invovled like multiple things have to be done or what?

From what I remember, the remote solenoid is nothing more than a switch that shoots more juice to the existing solenoid for it to overcome the resistance created by the heat soak condition. At first I thought it was used to bypass the solenoid, but the design of the starter requires that you use the existing one. This method works, though, so don't worry about it.

Basically, it's just going to take some wiring. If you have wire cutters, strippers, and the usual wrenches, that should do it. Do the search and you'll see what all it takes. From what I remember, it's just the solenoid (which is for a Ford model IIRC, but that's a moot point), and maybe new battery cables to hook it all up properly.

It works like a charm. Do a search on how to do it, and if you have any trouble, we'll try to walk you through it.

dont worry..uness your hercules..you probably wont damage it when wacking it with a hammer..we have all had to do it now and then to some car where the design flaw puts the electrical starter next to an exhaust downpipe..lol..

jamesbob02 offers a more perminant, and less embaressing way (when trying to pick up chicks) for your problem... but to explain in short, you wont harm your starter by wacking it with a hammer, it releases the solenoid ( I believe this is what happens atleast, please correct me if I'm wrong) since the heat makes it expand, and it gets stuck. whacking it with a hammer will "un-stick" it.

Now back to the embarressing portion... imagine this, you go to the mall and find a chick that you wanna have drive around with you in your car and you think she's real hot, when you get to the car, you open up the passenger side door for her, take out your starter, pop your hood and hit something.

Now would that make her hotttt or what? Ask me how I came up with this scenario
