it won't

you will need a gear reduction starter so you will have more starting torque

My 400 with 11 to 1 would turn over fine even with the battery in the trunk. Get a starter for 91-92 V8s. They used rare earth magnets and are as strong as gear reductions starters. They arn't cheep. Mine was 280.

I could not use a gear reduction because the nosecone does not fit in a standard T5 belhousing.

CSI makes some pretty good gear reduction starters cheap... I think jegs has them.

Summit has their own brand of mini starter (sum-g1660) for $157.95

My autozone special, I.e 82 camaro v8. Is living just fine starting my 10.8:1 408. I am running 36 deg of advance, Much more and the starter starts working real hard to start the car.

I have the Summit brand mini gear reduction starter, and not only does it work fine, but it fits the T-5 bell housing just fine.

I've got about 11:1 compression, and my stock starter does just fine.

10.25:1 and a stock starter works fine. i hope you didn't buy the 35 dollar special from autozone, though, that will probably puke. mine was 73 bucks from napa.

Maybe YOURS didn't but I ran a GMPP Ministarter with my T5 for several months. It's on the same page in that catalog with the ZZ4 motor. Worked fine.

In case you're wondering, it replaced a stock starter that burned up.

i think there are two T5 bellhousings. The most common one requires a starter height of about 2+ inches. Most mini starters do not have this mounting height or any type of adjustment.

Odd, never heard that before. Not saying you're wrong though. I had a WC T5 from a 91 RS.

Actually wait, I can think of two separate ones. The 83 (for the mechanical clutch) and the 84-92 (hydraulic clutch).

But I'm not sure what the bellhousing has to do with it. They all use the same size flywheel, and the starter mounts on the block, so I don't see how the bellhousing would screw this up????
