Headers keep burning plug wires...

Well my headers keep burning my spark plug wires. I never though the car could run any worse but last night I experienced running on about 6 cylinders, maybe 5 I dont know. Anyway, Ive tried different routing but no matter where I put them, they go bad. This is really starting to get to me. Anyone have ideas? Thanks. BTW, the way my Formula was could smoke the post-header car I have now. Pretty sad huh?

I've seen posts where guys talk about how their Accel wires cracked or burned from the heat. I have Taylor with a lifetime warranty. When I bought them I was told if they melted or burned, I could get my money back. So far, so good. A few of the boots are 1" away from the headers.

I tried the heat-proof fiberglass wire shields that are sold in Jegs and Summit, but they are only good up to a point. If the heat shield is in direct contact with the header, it will burn. Trust me, I've burned through a couple of them. The only real solution is to figure out a way to secure the wires with ties, clamps, or whatever so it can't contact the header tubes. I finally had to clamp my plug wires to the AIR tubes above my exhaust pipes. The AIR tubes don't get nearly as hot as the exhaust pipe itself, and this allowed me to position them precisely enough so that they never come in direct contact with the exhaust tubes.

I also got the Accel 300+ wires, because they have the highest temperature rating of any other aftermarket plug wire I looked at. Extra thick silicone layers, and an additional silicone jacket over the last 12" if wire closest to the heads. They are so big that no wire looms will ever contain them, but they have never burned out on me since I installed them over two years ago.

I cooked several sets of Taylor wires, and numerous Jacobs wire sets before hitting on the solution above. Lifetime warranty on wires is ok, but if you have to mail your barbecued wires to them before they will send you new ones, that typically means that your car will be down for a week every time they have to do this for you.

I can take them back to the parts store where I bought them. No mailing involved and no barbeque yet.

Accell sells good wire looms. I have a set on my 77 1/2-ton p/u, and they work well with the 8.8 wires. I'm not sure what kind of set-ups they have for centerbolt valve covers though. Call Jeg's and ask them what they have. Accell has about the best ignition products out there, I've used a couple different sets of wires. I was real dissapointed with the Holley and MSD wires.
