What year is that 307? My 86 roller cam slug has 140hp and 200 ft/lb. I would suggest a good set of headers, maybe a Performer intake (if it is pre-84?) and a mild cam. Remember, though, that when you buy a cam for this, the specs and drivability charateristics listed in a catalog are for a 350, so don't go too wild.

We've about pinpointed it down to the 9 code 307 from a Cutlass about 1982....You have the Y code engine I think this will be a fun engine to work with..Hey it's somethin different...

a 307 isn't a very good motor. about all you can do is put on a set of hedders, cam, intake, carb, and do some head work. they are torquey, but not the best for high performance. before you dump money into a motor that is worthless, swap in a real chevy 350. don't waste money modding an engine that is not worth anything. but if you wanna be different, go for it. i suggest doing a search for olds engines on the net. get hooked up wiht some hardcore olds guys that can tell you what you need to know.

Ok, there are other options besides a 350, everytime someone comes up with an idea for a different motor all you people have to say is get a "350 or larger, everything eles S_U_C_K_S". I say go ahead and mod the 307, you will stand out from the 350 crowd and when it is all done, I bet these people we will gawking at you car. I support the 307, the 350 is a good motor, just a bit to played out.

You're going to run an incredible amount of maze, and discover there's no cheese at the end. The Olds 307 is no better of a motor than a Chevy 305 and is probably not as good; except that there's very limited aftermarket support. So you'll do an enormous amount of work, spend a boatload of money, and come up with something at best equivalent to a TBI 305, with little or none of the upgrade path available with a 305.

Why would you want to do that to yourself?

Well I'm definately keeping the 307 in there. I think it's a cool motor. And it is found in an Olds 442 which is not a slow car.
But it is a much heavier car, and that motor makes it haul a$$..When I wanna go with the norm, I'll go buy me an 80's model Z...I just wanna do something different..I think it's fun trying to make "slow" or less horsepower engines go fast...Maybe I can take advantage of the torque..Considering it doesn't redline til nearly 7000...
Thanx anyway guys Maybe I'm being stubborn but hey, I'm havin fun

More power to the less conventional thinkers! I have a 73 rustang with a 250 strait 6 and a 3 speed manual. Its as slow as *****, but I like it. If I ever get done with my Bird, I plan on hopping that up as well. There are hardly any Over the Counter performance parts for that, but thats what makes it fun. When you beat someone's *** in a 307, You'll get a lot more appreciation than if you were to beat that same car with a 350. The 350 is a great motor. Why not try something different? I say good luck.

Well how come i can take rustang 5.0s and i haven't worked on it any? And my plug wires have holes in some of them.? It's like putting a station wagon engine in a geo...
cause my car is a lil lighter than the cutlass station wagon or 442.....
