r.i.p. my 92 tbi

my engine is dying . burns oil and gas like crazy. i took it to 110 mph and the whole car started to shake then at the stop light the problems started to occur. my oil meter was going back and forth everytime i tried to accelerate and would drive when i stepped on the gas, i had to press lightly and ride my way home basically on 20 mph. when i got to a stop i let go the gas and the car started to accelerate by itself up to 25 mph! not to mention the accelerator pedal feels like a brick when i step on it. when i got out, the motor seem to die down when i step on the gas and the smell of gasoline and bad exhaust was everywere. pondering of canceling the insurance and let it sit for a few months while my 88 project is complete. to bad cause my 92 is clean as hell.

These 92 305s can't hold up to anything that the earlier ones could. Mine bent a rod, I think... all cause I hit 4k rpm with low oil pressure. I mean come on... 4k??

On the plus side... winter project!!!

he's being a smartass.

My gas pedal was a little stiff, but I never went up to 25mph without touching it.

Yes and no. First make sure there is no obvious restriction around the gas pedel on the floor. A corver of a floor mat or worn carpet can do this. The TBI main shaft gets a good bit of gunk and corrosion on it over time. Take off the TBI unit and hose down the throttle spring with carb cleaner (keep it off of the TPS and IAC) and use a toothbrush to scurb it out. Then use some WD40 on the shaft and spring so that it will move freely. I bet you will be suprised.

4k on an L03 isn't ridiculous. And I said low pressure, not none. Of course it's old and these things happen, but I know for a fact that my 86 LG4 has taken far worse than that and is still keeping me on the road after 165k miles.
