Engine is making Capichino
There is Oil in the the water!!! the motor leeks badly, i have to put oil in everything i get gas. We think it is the Main rear seal, which in order to replace in the 88 years involves pulling the engine or trany.... sucks i think im going to have to wait unitll my TH350 is ready so I can bolt that in, inplace of the 700R4.
Anyways back to oil in the water. At first I was thinking a bad head gasket but the car is not over heating... and there is no water in the exhaulst, and its not smoking (to bad) also looks like I need new valve cover gaskets as well. could be adding to the little bit of smoke.
I just bought this car about 2 weeks ago and dont know the hole history about it yet. But what do you all think could be the problem?
I have not yet tried to drain the radiator, but i should some time soon.

eww.... i bet you've got some nasty over heating problems! I would suggest that you completely drain your coolant, and then take out your radiator and give it a heck of a flush if this is your daily driver.... not a permanent solution, but it will get you by for now.
How does your oil look? Milkshake?

Try flushing the cooling system and filling a bottle. Take a picture of what the coolant looks like, if you can. There is also the possibility of a rusty cooling system.

I will take some pictures and try draining the cooling system after this hurrican pass threw.... Due to rainy weather I have not had time to really deal with this problem. (it rains everyday in Florida, and they call this the sun shine state..HA)
The oil is clean, altho It is leeking very badly. I have to put a court in about every week. Looks like it maybe the Rear Main seal but its hard to tell, due to there is oil stains everywhere! Could be leeking in more than one area.
The engine runs around 220, at night about 210, but the other day when I was sitting at the gas station to fill up before the Hurrican, it jump up to about 240/250ish (1st time for that one, I have only had the car for about 2 weeks) I was inline for gas for about 30mins!!!!! And then when it was my turn they only had 87 octange!!!! So I had to go to Discount and get some Octange Booster. After I filled up it went back down to 220 so if im not moving it will over heat when its in the upper 90s outside.
Also when I post pictures you will notice that the person who owned the car before me was an X plumer(or so he thought) and he riged together some tubing and rubber elbows for the cooling lines. Then on top of that he then zip tided the fuel lines to it!!! What a dumb ***, So the fuel is entering the carb at about 220 or so....pictures coming soon.
I just bought some steel braided hoses to fix this "bandaid" this guy made. If this hurrican doesnt hit untill Saturday night Im going to try to fix this problem during the day. But I dought I will be able to pull that off do to the rain bands.
If you do not hear from me with in the next few days, thats do to no power, or cable.... So this maybe my last post for awhile. The power companys are saying a possible 10days with out power and water!!!!!! I will try and post Pictures tomarrow while I still have power, Hope Frances doesnt F my already F-ed car...lol

Yea, if the oil is clean, then more and more fingers point to rust. If there was oil in the coolant, then there would be coolant in the oil; it goes both ways. So, since the oil doesn't look like chocolate milk, I say rust.
LoL, nice job on that little swear word edit

Thanks..lol
I heard that gaskets could break differently. And there is an area if the gasket breaks it could let oil into the water and not the other way around.... But what I was told by a friend, the trany lines goin into the radiator could have leeked into it.
I do know that there has been 3 tranys put in this car.
The 1st 700R4 went to sh.it, the guy put in a Th350(I dont know if I believe him though, due to the fact you need a small drive shaft, do to the Th350s are longer) He then said that went to sh.it and stuck another Rebuilt 700R4, whichs is the one thats inthere right now. It shifts good and does not slip. So there could be X-Tranny fluid in the water.
The water did feel oily, but again it could have been apast problem.
I guess the only real way to figure it out is to flush out the radiator.

Well so far I still have power, but due to rainy weather I did not have a chance to work on the car..
I will try and work on it tomarrow, but as slow as this storm is moving its looking like it will be another wasted day!!!

There is no "area in a gasket" in a SBC motor that oil at higher pressure than water, is next to water. can't happen. No such place.
Obviously, that's the only way that engine oil will get into water, but not vice-versa; is if the oil is at higher pressure than the water (duh).
There is absolutely no place where pressurized oil exists at a gasket in the whole motor. Not a head gasket, not an intake gasket, not a timing cover gasket, nowhere. Some other motors, yes; Chevrolet V8, no. Any place that exchanges water and oil ALOT more water will get into the oil, than oil will get into the water.
Transmission fluid will color the coolant pink. If it's brown, it isn't trans fluid.
Flush the system, refill with clean coolant, and see what happens.

That all depends on what-all is used in both systems RB.
I'd also flush and see what gives with the new coolant. Also as far as the oil leak, try cleaning the engine so you can see from where the leak originates.
Oh and it's quart, not court.

Well, I just got power back on after 3 days with it off! I will take pictures tomarrow and post them. I need to run up to discount and get some new hoses before I can test it out. I just noticed another POS hose, I tell you the guy who had it before me must have been BROKE, There is so much cheap sh.it I keep on noticing.
I had a new problem the other day, luckly I just solved tonight.
My car was blowing out Black smoke rings... Thats right perfict smoke rings. Due to running VERY RICH!!! So rich everytime I would step on the brake the car would stall. I stook off the air cleaner to look inside the Holley Carb, and the jets were dripping fuel, due to dirt/gunk holding the pin in and letting fuel flow constently. With a little carb cleaner and a few taps and a few blowz on the pin, it solved the problem. I also put a brand new fuel filter on as well. I also bought some new plugs, did not have time to install yet but I will try tomarrow, altho with the stock Exhaulst Manifold and the AC bullSh.it installing new plugs is going to suck. (Cant wait to install my Shorty Headers, and rip out all the ac BS)
On friday right before the Hurrican, I had to fill up with 87 octange, I then made my way over to discount for some Octange booster. I noticed the problem about a day or 2 later, so im going to have to blame dirty *** 87 octange for this one!! along with dirty fuel filter
