just bought set of drag radials. HELP?

I just bought a set of BFG drag radials. They are 275/50/15's. How much should I heat these up for street racing. I have a 2500 stall and I want to really be able to rip off the line. Do they stick good and how long will they last. Thanks

#1 - Don't street race. It's dangerous, and makes all of us look bad.

#2 - BFG doesn't recommend driving their DOT drag radials on the street.

When you are ready to go to a sanctioned track with real safety equipment and rules, ask BFG how to warm their tires up for best results.

BF recommends a small burnout just to clean the tires and add a little heat. Massive smokies are a waste of tire though. Air pressure helps, but pump them back up for street driving. I think the low 20 psi range works great for the track with these and 29-31 works ok on the street.

Street racing is fun. What is wroung with lining two cars up on a back road and running them. besides I didn't ask about street racing I ask about tires. Thanks for the info Joel.

I quote: "How much should I heat these up for street racing."

Perhaps you didn't ask about the propriety of street racing, but you obviously need to be informed. What's wrong is exactly what I said - even back roads tend to gain traffic at inopportune times. I drive by a cross every day on the "back road" a mile from work at the end of what was a 90 mph "street race" a few of weeks ago - an 18-year old twin now has a room to himself.

Street racing can be summed up in one sentence: "Don't be stupid."

street race the thing. like you can't die just driving around anyway. they aren't recomended on the street because they wear out fast and aren't very good in the rain, but they do hook good. just smoke them long enough to see some smoke and pull a foot or so forward from your spot and go on green. people on here always talk about high speed and can they beat this guy. where to they think this stuff happens? in the air? find me one camaro/mustang/corvette owner that hasn't gotten on his car once or twice and i'll show you someone not deserving the car. are these things modded or even just built factory with a v8 to go to work and back? no, they are built for sport drivng. enough damn whining.

Street racing isn't any more dangerous than runing at the track. "If you are smart about it." We have a quarter mile strip marked off on an asphalt road five miles in the country. The road goes 3 miles without any intersections and 5 miles before the first hill. If we can't run the quarter, slow down, and get back into the right lane in time then yes I should be on the strip because I'm diving a funny car or top fuel.I'm sorry about what happened to that kid, but appreantly he wasn't very cautious about were he was racing at. oh, by the way I do run on the track , but it is also fun to find some mustangs and other cars to smoke on are back road strip.

i will be the first to admit. i used to race at every light!! and i loved it. but now that i have been pulled over 13 times, i have finally realized what my dad was saying as i grew up. "WHAT YOU DO NOW WILL AFFECT THE REST OF YOUR LIFE" now that i am joining the army to be a Military Police so i can be a State Trooper when i turn 22, its all come back to me, i cant join so fast because i have to many tickets. so i have to have some changed and then refiled, its costing me a fortune in Lawyers fees. and this is the only way i can be a Trooper, and i wont change its my goal!!
so dont be dumb. if you have the power why show people, no one cares, most people just want to get home anyways., just hold it back, and concede it! YES ITS BEING ****Y, but damn why go and kill someone, just for that second of fun?
and yes i have raced many times over 150mph, and i have seen one wreck at those speeds. the dude walked away, but that is because he was drunk, and in a 2001 SS(a whole story in its own). so just dont be dumb, and this is exactly why people look down on camaros and firebirds, because of dumb young kids like i was.
please dont be dumb, and if you do. do it no where near IOWA, because if i catch you.(when i become a Trooper) i will throw your A$$ in jail. and yes its legal to do that hear. i almost went twice!

no offense, and i didnt mean to flame anyone. i just want everyone to be safe, and how would you feel if someone was racing and hit your son who was walking away from your yard after the ball he just threw out in the street. exactly think about things before you do it. and remember it can happen to you also!

Anyway, drag radials do not need a burnout. All you need to do is spin them to remove pebbles and such. I realize a huge smoke show adds to the intimidation factor but it will make the rubber in those tires ball up and act like ball bearings. light 'em and see what the tread looks like afterwards. Joel is right pressure in the low 20's is as low as you should go, remember these are radial tires here.

If you don't agree with street racing, don't do it. Otherwise, to each their own...

As for the tires. They always worked better for me if you spin them over just enought clean them off. They are fairly soft and things stick to them.

Allright. Ive held out till Now but I cant Resist.

Street Racing, The great American Evil.

In My part of the country, there is Not a Single track for 100 Miles, literally. We either have sears point, or Sacto. Both Quite long drives away.

On saturday And friday Nights, we Gather On a 4 Lane, 2 direction, Peice of Road that was Built With the idea of massive commercial development in the area, that never happend.

In Short, its a big Road with Small Roads on both ends, In the *** end of noplace. Right in the middle of the Coyote valley.

Its about 3/4 Mile Long, and 2 lanes in either Direction, Seperated by a Dirt median, about 20 feet Wide.

Feilds On all Four Sides.

We go Out, and Race Untill the Cops show and we all Jam. Go to Taco Bell Or In & Out, and Talk **** For a while, then Go Back.

I have Only heard Of two Accidents there, One Involving a 10sec Duster that got loose, Into the dirt ( No damage) And Another, Involving My friend, Charlie Rodriguez, Who was Doing stunts on his Motorcycle, and Was Killed When He fell Off the back Of his Bike, Doing a wheely at 100 mph+

Other than that, we have a few blown trannys, Some ppl who get stuck when the pull off the road, and One dumbass who did donuts right into a ditch. ( In his daddy power '67 Chevelle )

In this sense, street racing is safe. The only people Who have Gotten hurt, are those Who Push It. Charlie was Just waiting For his time, that Guy was insane On his bike.

Stoplight Racing is Retarded.

My friend, Chris Farmer, Was stoplight racing and T-boned a Minivan, Killing a Young Child.

Cross streets, ped traffic, Other drivers, are all prohibitive when You Start to Consider racing. Its Not Worth It.

Once you Own you car Long enough, Have to Pay for your Own Gas, and perform and Finance your Own Repairs, Gunning it from stoplight to stoplight gets Old, real Fast.

Like, Anything, There Is a Time and a place. Racing at "bailey" Or its equivilent Around the country, IMO is a Perfect Place. Racing from light To Light, Its stupid, Immature, and Looking For a ticket/accident.

Exhibition Of speed, Engaged in a Speed Contest. Its a misdameanor, and 2 points. You get one Of those, and Mommy and Daddy arent going to Want to Pay for your insurance anymore.

That's My Story, and Im stickin Too it.

Be smart, One Stupid Fbody Driver Ruins The Reputation Of 100 Good ones.

Heck, I've never had a ticket and mommy and daddy don't pay for the insurance anyway:-) (Which probably explains no tickets...) ~Arnold

DO NOT DRIVE THOSE TIRES IN THE RAIN. They are not fun to drive in the rain. They come with minimal tread to begin with, and the tread wears down extreamly fast. I got about 3 months of driving on the streets out of mine. Then I gave them to a friend to use at the track and he got over 100 dragstrip passes on them after that. He would lower the tires down to 12psi at the track. He was pulling 1.6x 60fts off of them. Bfg dosnt reccomend going any lower than 14psi(I think). They are not a "true radial" the sidewalls do flex a little so you can run lower psi than a standard radial tire. Here is a video of a run on bfg's pressure is at 12psi and he did a real smokey burnout. This launch was a rev limiter clutch dump. http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~ws6luvr/Nittin11.96@114.avi
This also shows you how fast ls1's are all his car has is free mods,4.10's,lid, and a cat back.
