Don't check your oil while it's hot? hehe

If it does it while you're engine's on, then your dipstick isn't going all the way in place.

It's not really a big deal, I work at JiffyLube and every car there smokes when I check/change the oil on a hot car. So long as you don't mean smoke is billowing out of it like a steam engine.

Don't think I'm trying to insult your intelligence here D'sZ-28, forgive me if it comes out that way. The replies that I've read so far sound correct. But, if when you're checking the oil on a hot engine sometimes oil can drip onto a hot exhaust manifold/header and cause smoking near the dipstick tube. Just something else to check.

Put your finger over the dipstick tube while the engine is running. If it builds up pressure then you're getting excessive blow-by past the rings. The PCV should pull most of it back into the engine. Check to make sure it's not plugged. Other than that it sounds like you need a re-ring.
