blew valve cover seals outta my engine!!!

i just done a recent tune up, plugs, wires, and distributor cap, put it all on, wouldnt start, then the next thing i know, my damn starter went out, just got done replacing that today, and went and tried starting it, and kept tryin, and the next thing i know, i hear a loud pop, and it blew my vavle cover seals out, they are hanging out now, so it like built up gas in there or something, i have no clue? what could it be? it is gettin spark, would this destroy my engine? or will it be something simple? i hope it didnt hurt anything, only has 25k on rebuild, thanks for reading this thread, the distributor seems very loose, so must be outta time, i am clueless

um check you emision junk,

pvc
egr
breather if you have one.

seems like there was something plugged like the pvc valve on the valve cover. pull it out and see if it rattles. if it does its good. blockage somewhere else.

Let us know what ya find

The only thing I can think of that would launch the rubber out of the VC's is crankcase pressure. As stated, check the PCV system, make sure it's bleeding off pressure like it should. If it is, try a leak down test to determine the integrity, or lack thereof, of the rings.

Your oil is full of gasoline, and it lit off.

Change the oil first; then find the injector that's dumping all its fuel while it's sitting and not running. Then find the plug wires that are out of sequence, or whatever else it is, that's put together wrong, and keeping the engine from running.

It's not the PCV system or breather. They're not designed to cope with explosions in the crankcase. And it's ESPECIALLY not the EGR. Why does everybody blame everything bad on that??? Oh, and it's not the timing, either.

I agree, somehow gas got into the crankcase and lit off, you need to find out where it is coming from, you probably have an injector that's stuck open or even worse a short in the wireing that is keeping an injector open (happend to me, my sys grounds the injector to fire it and a wire chafed through), also you might want to ck all the other seals (timing cover, oil pan, ect.) to see if there damaged.

well, found out it was the timing, but when i was tryin to start it i had the gas down, stupid me, so it built up gas inside the engine, and ignited, nothing damaged other than valve cover gaskets, thank ***, thanks for the Replies!

It's True

I saw a SBC that the coil died come in our shop years ago, apparently the owner tried to start it for quite some time and loaded the pan with alot of gas.

New coil went on. Ok, start 'er up........BOOOMM !!

It literally blew the valve covers completely off and the oil pan as well as the timing cover were so warped/torn they had to be replaced!

"C'mon baby light my fiiiirrrreeee"

(car in mention was carb'd)

fuel injection doesnt work like that...when you key up the fuel pump will prime the rails and injectors...so when u go to start it itll burn that fuel and the ecm will get ''injector pulse" and turn on the fuel pump...hold the gas pedal to the floor all you want..its not like a double pumper carb were you keep pumping it and itll keep dumping as much fuel as your foot demands...
