engine rebuild
I think I'm going to have the engine rebuilt in my 91 RS.
The thing is that I don't have the time to do it myself so I was going to have a reputable shop tackle it for me.
It has to 305 TBI (I know, not the most popular engine of choice) and I thought about having it mildly built. I'm not looking for drag strips times or you can't touch this deal. I'm just looking for good response & reliability while keeping a stock appearance.
What would you suggest? Remember, I'm keeping the TBI & wanting a mild build. Right now I only have about $3500.00 to play with & will be having a real mechanic to the job.
I don't want to here about heart transplants either. I have the 305, I want to keep the 305, & it is the 305 that I will have rebuilt.

You may want to post this in the TBI section of the forum. Those guys could put you in the right direction if you're wanting to keep the 305.
Personally I say you have that shop throw a set of stock vortecs on your motor with a performer vortec intake. You'll have to get a TBI to carb adapter plate also. That takes care of the induction.
Get yourself a set of Hooker 2055's and y-pipe going to a full 3" exhaust too.
As for a better cam (the L03 cam is just wayyyy too whimpy) Look for something with roughly .450 lift on intake and exhaust and a duration of 210/220. Also go no lower than 112 on the LSA.
You'll also most likely need an upgraded fuel pump becuase the new motor will (most likely) demand more fuel than the stock pump can deliver (13psi max).
Other than that all you'll need is a chip for your setup.
Hope I was of some help man!
Edit: This was just an answer to your motor rebuild/build-up question. With all this new power you'll also need a higher stall converter, a shift kit, and atleast some 3.42 gears (and I know you'll want limited-slip).
Also, why are you wanting to rebuild the motor in the first place?

Building a engine is not hard if you know how to follow directions. Get a chiltons manual & then the first couple times read and study. Pretty soon you will not need the manual except for to double check some things.
I'm not saying I don't have the skill to do the job myself. I have rebuilt many of sb 350's & fords 302 & 351's.
I just don't have the time, place or the tools anymore to do it. (thanks to the woman I had married then divorced).
Maybe this winter I will, but I wanted to work on the body then.
