Car hasnt smoked on startup for 2 months.

Ever since I've been running Mobil 1 15w-50 the smoke on start up has gone down and down and now it hasnt smoked on startup for 2 months just by changing the oil. Is mobil 1 15w-50 thicker or thinner then normal 10w-30?

I remember Glenn talking about the same thing after he switched to M1 also.

The old *rumor* was that M1 would swell rubber a bit, but I really don't know.

Doesn't sound like a problem you want to work on though..

Mkos,

I'm happy to hear that your smoking habit has decreased. I've been using "phony" oil in my TA since it had about 18,000 miles on it. I've tried 10W30 Mobil 1 and 15W50 Mobil 1. It now has 46,000 miles and still smokes a bit on startup. It did it with either oil in the case, and always has. I think I'd be disappointed if it didn't do it someday.

I hear ya Vader. My car blows a good cloud on startup, too. If ever it didnt, I'd probably wonder what the hell was wrong with my engine... :P

So I guess the lesson to learn here is that if it stops smoking at startup, you better check your oil because chances are, you don't have any:-)

End result is higher number means thicker oil.
