Sticky/Locked up Alternator

How can I fix this? Do I have to replace/rebuild my alternator? My accessory belt broke because my alternator was hard to turn, and it smoked it, is there an easy way to fix this?

Depends on what alternator you have. The older style 10SI ones are easy to rebuild. The newer ones as designed to be replaced instead of rebuilt.

Depending on what's wrong internally, it'll probably be cheaper just to get a replacement one with a warrenty.

I'd just go ahead and replace it. If you take it to Advance Auto or Autozone or something it shouldn't cost you more than 100. (After you bring back the defective one.)

Granted, you're not going to get much value out of those, but they work. heh
