NON THIRDGEN QUES. BUT I NEED HELP!!!

Sorry for posting a topic not related to thirdgens but I really need help!!!

It's reguarding my beater car (which I need to get to work while I put my GTA back together!!) a 1993 Toyota Corolla. When you turn the key the starter clicks like the solinoid went out but I changed the starter, it worked fine for about 2 days now it's just clicking again and won't crank!!!

Please help me out guys, I couldn't find any Toyota boards to post on and I need to get to work!

Thanks

All i can think of is the obvious, like bad connection somewhere, or a battery. A lot of help, huh

Try checking all of your grounds. (battery, and the cable to the engine....) also, the starter grounds thru the motor, to the battery, pull the starter, clean the mating surfaces, and put it back on.

Hope this helps.

try the altinator to see if it is charging the battery correctly. If that is not it try to hit the starter(lightly) with a hammer and try to start it.If that works go ahead and get yourself a new starter.

All connections and grounds are good. A hammer worked at first but not anymore. Could it be the ignition switch??

Toyota boards?!
At least I got a little chuckle out of that one.

Anyway, It sounds like you might have found a bad solenoid. If the battery voltage remains at teh cable when you attempt to start, the solenoid isn't switching or the brushes/armature are defective.

Just for grins make sure teh starter is secusrely bolted to the engine. too.

Vader,

Thanks but that's the wierd thing, the starter is brand new (I put it in myself just a week ago) and I had it bench tested before I installed it and it did work for a couple of days after the install. Damn this is driving me nuts. I'll guess I'll have to take it to a shop

That means exactly nothing. Just because the starter is "new" doesn't mean that it didn't go bad. I've put in a reman starter and took it right back out the same day. Somthing could have been loose inside and bound up. Starters are kind of like the old HEI modules, sometimes they last for 5 years, sometimes they last for 5 days.
