one simple question about setting the timing...
on an automatic what rpms does the car need to be running to set the timing?

Idle, so.. around 1000 rpm's in neutral.
Also note the RPM will change when you adjust the timing.

If alls working well, and resonably in spec, you should idle about 750rpms on a stock motor.
If not, you should look through Tech Central and adjust min-idle speed.
1000 rpms in nuetral/park is too high.

With a good tranny, 1000 rpm in park will bark the tires when you put it in gear if you have a stock TC.

The EFI cars are better at controlling idle than the older carbed (pre-ECM'ed one's) are.
