Not like any of you ever want to hear my opinion, but once again, I'll give it.

I think it's a bad idea for people to compare stock 1/4 mile times. Everything from location to envirement to driver can make a difference in performance. I assume you are asking this question because you are wondering what you should buy, or where you stand.

I can't speak on behalf of the 305 cars, but the 87-88 5.7's ran high 14's in most PUBLICATIONS. The 89's ran a bit faster than the 87-88 cars, mid and in some cases higher mid 14's in most PUBLICATIONS. The 90-92 cars ran anywhere from low to mid 14's.

If this is too determain which car you should buy, find a 5-speed car with a lot of miles on it. Then you can build a serious 350-406 small block, and easily put a T56 behind it. Had I known what I know now, I would be looking for a 90-92 5 speed B4C (cop car), or G92 car. I have witness a G92 car running a high 13 timeslip stock, but to compare timeslips is stupid...but I have never seen a stock L98/auto do that stock.

so, the main thing is was worried about was buying a 305 auto z28 and finding out it was slow. but even with 2.73 you can run a 15.1 seems good.
the thing is that all my buddies have 88-92 mastang gts, what are the stock time on them, and what would it take a camaro to beat one?

If the weather is cool and you have the A/C off, you can hit about 6.9 0-60. If it is a hot humid day then that is more in the mid 7s and if you have the AC on then that is more like 8.5.

First of all.. NEVER listen to Car and Driver's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, they are complete BS. They listed a stock 80's Monte Carlo SS(cant remember exact year) at low 17's in the 1/4 and my friends will run mid 15's all day and it is bone stock(still not that impressive) There are a lot of factors in your 1/4 or 1/8 mile times, wheelspin, temperature, altitude, humidity, wind, alignment of the planets and stars, etc. I have heard that the 305 TPI autos usually run high 14's to low 15's and that the 350 TPIs usually run mid to high 14's, but you cant go by what you hear because there are so many factors involved.. just run your car yourself it is the only way to know for sure.

a 92 z28 with 5.7 didn't have a 3.27 gear stock. expect 15.1 to 15.4 for a 5.0 with auto. 14.6's to 15.0 with a 5.0 manual. 14.4 to 14.7 with a 5.7.

350 TPI's run low to mid 14's, 305 TPI's run high 14's to low 15's.

Well, the 87-93 Mustangs saw MANY cam changes. I beleive 5 in a 6 year period of time. A stock 5.7L auto, 90-92Z will beat a STOCK GT, a STOCK LX, but it will NOT beat a stock NotchBack LX, unless it has an auto (very weird, 5.0 notchbacks were bought as performance cars) that's slipping badly.

The 305 Camaro's don't really stand a good chance against any of the Fox bodies in most cases, unless you have a rare G92 or B4C car. Some people with G92 cars don't even know it's a G92 car, so the next unsuspecting buyer has no clue. Even the most wildly modified 305's, that sniff nitrous, or inhale supercharged air will be laughed at by the Ford 302 with half of the money under the hood of it. I have yet to see someone convert a 305 into a single plane EFI setup, but that might be one thing. However, when deciding between a 305 auto or a 350 auto, why give yourself a 45 cubic inch handycap? If it's a 305 manual, particularly the G92 or B4C, then you might have a toss up.

If you're wanting to beat some stockish 5.0 Stangs do not buy a 305 auto. Stick with either the dual cat 305 TPI 5spd (dual cats are easiest way to spot a G92 car) or a 350 TPI car. Either of those are at least in the same league as the 5spd 5.0 Stang (you'd kick a auto Stang around). I would say the 91-92 350 auto should be beating stock stangs, the 305 TPI 5spd is really a toss up on average if you ask me.
