how to get 400HP out of a chevy 355

I have a newly rebuilt chevy 355 with a fresh set of 882 heads with 1.94 intake valvesand want to know what I could do to get as close as possible to 400HP with out hurting its streetability? It is going into my everyday driver and if at all possible I would rather not have a stall. I have a 700r4 with a shift kit going behind it.

What pistons do you have? Because with those 76cc 882 heads your compression is gonna be in the 8's. Not good, to get where you want i may be a good idea to get a worked over set of 305 heads or some Protopline 906 heads. But those 906 heads will require a specific vortec intake.

If you don't want a stall you are pretty much limited to getting way better heads.

I agree with ME Leigh (check your other thread just below this one, about the exact same thing).

Much. Look up a guy named Sitting Bull. He has some great directions in his signiture for porting and polishing 305 heads.

The 305 heads would be a much better starting point than 882's for a 400bHP motor.

Trash the 882's the 305 heads will need Full On PORTING and Larger valves (1.94" x 1.60")
The small chamber will go a long way in getting the compression up where it should be. (10:1)
Check the head casting numbers before you start.
416's or 081's are best.
