82 vette ditributor?

i just went to pick up and new ignition moduel...and i went to buy it for my 305...(so i thought...thats what the previous owner told me) but the one that was on the shelf for my 305 is the wrong one..so i bring the old on up to match it up...and booom it matches the "82 vette" moduel...so can a vette distibutor fit on a 305? or could my engine be a 350?

and where can i find the casting numbers to check?

the casting numbers on the block are behind the drivers side head on the back of the block you can take a flashlight and look back there and write down the numbers you see then go to www.mortec.com and check to see what you have

as for the distributor a small block chevy distributor will fit into any small block chevy ....
it doesnt necessarily make your engine a vette engine it merely means that someone most likely swapped out distiributors at one time

All 82 vettes were crossfire. I dont believe the dizzy will work on a cc qjet setup. I had an 84 crossfire vette, the same setup and to set the timing i had to disconnect a single tan wire. CC qjets have a multiple wire harness to disconnect, so thats one difference right there.

Many of these modules are pretty univeral, fit several different models. Could be the same for a truck as a Vette.

There are three different modules. A 4 pin, a 7 pin, and a 8 pin. Thats the only difference.

smallbock and bigblock distributers interchange, so long as they are not a tall deck.ive modified a few 87+ small cap external coil dist. to work with an msd box and they work great. one of them is on a freinds 468ci bbc. very very very inexpensive.the only parts in the modified dist is a pick up and it ties dirrectly into the magnetic p/u on the msd.
