Starter wiring "R" terminal??

I'm putting in a replacement starter. Original has 3 terminals, Main to battery and fusable links, "S" for key wire, and "R" for??? The new starter only has Main and "S". Does anyone know what the "R" terminal is for, and do I need it?

Thanks

Yes someone knows. I do, for example.

No, you don't need it; unless you're running an old points type ignition, from the early 70s or before.

Wonder if that is for the cold start injector circuit?

I'm pretty sure that its an engine crank signal for accessory power cutout during start up.

If it's an accessory cut out I'm not too worried about it, but if it's related to cold start it's getting to look alot like X-mass here in upstate NY and I'll be needing that. Does anyone know for sure. It's not even in the schematic in the Haynes manual. Haven't checked Chilton yet.

My 87 schematic shows cold start switch and injector running off of the purple and white wire that goes to the "s" terminal. It shoots off somewhere in the harness and not from the starter "r" terminal.

LOL. The cold start injecton is controlled by the ECM..not the starter.

Actually, I BELIEVE it is controlled by the "switch" next to the temp sensor on the front of the intake. If you notice, the sensor for the cold start is significantly bigger than the temp sensor because it is actually a switch.

Yes, the temp switch is also wired into the system...but the ECM actually controls the injector, when the temp switch tells it to.

Nope, the cold start injector is directly controlled by the cold start injector switch and has no ECM input in the system at all. It is an independent system.
