Old springs on new heads
OK, they arent that old but anyway... I am getting some world products S/R Torquer heads from summit racing this week but have a questin about the valve springs. Should I use the springs that come on the heads or use the springs matched to my cam. The old springs only have like 300 miles on them. (old heads went south) If I use the springs I have, will they just bolt right up so to speak? I was wrong in my last post, my cam is not a XE268 its a XE256. Dont ask how I got those confused but thats neither here nor there. Let me know what you all think. I really appreciate all the help and feedback. Makes me think I will do it right this time LOL...

Honestly I do not know. I have been trying to dig up info on the world springs, and I am searching for the card that came with my current ones. I got them from the machine shop who assembled the heads and they saif they were matched to the cam. Darn my horrible book keeping....

Start measuring and go have them tested. Easiest way in your position I guess.
You could also get the specs of the springs that come with the heads and call your cam mnfg. and see what they say.

Good point. Will a machine shop be able to test the springs? I have read a lot of posts on people having the "stock" springs on these heads break. I will get the ones I have tested and post here tomorrow then. Thanks!

The springs on the new heads will be more than enough.the lowest rate springs they put on those heads is good for .550 lift right out of the box.I ran my dart heads with those springs and a edelbrock rpm cam and there wasnt a hint of valve float.Id just bolt em on but give em a good cleaning first, just my 2cents

i wouldn't run the springs that came on the heads. if the springs you have match your cam that would be the spring to use. if you want have them tested to make sure they're still in spec, or depending on what testing cost verse new springs you may be ahead to just get new springs.

Ok, I am going to use the springs I have so thats settled. One more question, will comp cams magnum 1.6 rockers work well with these heads? Thanks again.
