Thinkin about a new engine...had this in mind:

-l98 shortblock ($1136)
---2 bolt main
---1 pc rear

-LT4 hotcam ($175)
---218/228 dur, .525/.525 lift, 112 LSA

-gmpp hydraulic lifter set ($200)

-SDPC upgraded vortec head kit ($941)
---z28 valve springs, lt4 retainers, stamped steel rocker arms
---edelbrock performer RPM airgap intake

-Edelbrock performer 750 carb, elec choke ($277)

-GMPP 2nd design roller lifter pushrod kit ($30)

-cloyes 86-up true roller timing set ($85)

all adds up to under 3 grand!

hows that look so far?

and i was also wondering if the hotcam kit includes lifters.

i possibly might go Holley Stealth Ram too

Not for $175.

But, then, there shouldn't be any reason to need new lifters, unless the ones in the L98 were abused in one fashion or another.

I wouldn't say it's too much carb, but I wouldn't go for that type of carb, personally.

What do you plan to do with the car after this new engine goes in it?

scoggins dickey ( www.sdpc2000.com ) has a crate exactly like that set up for TPI that made 357 hp @ 4200 rpm, and 416 ft/lbs at 4200 rpm...with just edelbrock runners.

Add the price of those items up. Some people build entire 350's for less than that. (I guess it's the "just" part that got me going.)

I wouldn't put much faith in magazine hp rating. Put that combo in DD2000 and it falls short by about 50hp and 50tq, and we all know how DD2000 is a little generous.

So magazine power rating

Roller cam with lifters would be about 240-260 range.
