EGR valve. Positive, negative, or ported?????

Chiltons states that on the stamped # on the top of the EGR determins what type it is. I cand seem to identify what it is. HELP.
The numbers are: DFX17088125 and 20402N. Im getting a code 32. I think the egr's diaphram is broken, but its positive backpressure, then the leak would be normal.

I believe it should be negative.

For future reference, typically, that is what the N or P is on them.

You likely could have found that in a SEARCH. I don't believe I've ever heard of a positive backpressure valve installed on a TPI - at least not from the factory.

i wanted to be sure....

I wanted to be sure before I spent 100$ for an EGRr. I did see that there was an "N" in those numbers, but I thought maybe it was a P or an N by its self plain as day and not mixed in, like a seperate stamp. I did use the archives, and did not find anything, sorry my post was not worthy enough. Lately, everytime I post anything people freak out and say some smart **** because it was not written correctly or the question is too simple. What the hell is this site for then??? I post questions in hopping that someone has been through the same thing. Tell you the truth, I hate the archives. I would rather someone real write back. Whats the problem??? If too many people post the same question over and over and dont check the archives??? I fuguered that was good for this site. it shows that people use it. AND I DID DI RESEARCH. Its called writing to the people on this sit for answers. What other research should I do before comming here.

do men run this sit??? or chicks. If I have a question for you guys, and a log on to check responses, but all I find are people that complain about my question, remind me about my spelling errors, or tell me to do research, then this site is usless to me.

ITS VERY SIMPLE

Answer my questions if you can. If not, DO NOT ANSWER AT ALL.
THANK YOU.

Lets not forget what this sit is for. For people working on cars, not people working on their question writing, spelling, or research skills.

Wow, was that a shot at Vader or myself?

In either case I think that you are reading a bit much into either response.

Also, the archives and the search function are to different data. If you are looking at only the archives, then you are looking at some old stuff and not as much data as the search.

As for the childish little fit, let me explain something to you. You post a question, I post a response. You have no say as to who responds or what their response will be. If you don't like it tough. Start your own site. Don't come in and start bitching at senior members who posted their replies for more reasons than to just help you, alone, along.

As for having someone real write back, this isn't just like a job or a help desk. If you can't handle that go pay a mechanic $60+/hr and grill him.

If the site gets aggrevating or boring, people leave. They are not paid. The most knowledgeable people would take off if they answered the same thing over and over and over again. many do in fact take breaks from the site.

And as for your last response, keep in mind that your answer was apparently found, so I fail to see what the very last rant was for.

Ok, I get it now

So, because we dont pay for this site, we have to take all the smart *** remarks? Also, because the senior members dont get paid, they get to act like a smart ***? WOW, and I thought they were here to help people work on their cars. sound more like a power trip thing. I guess thats what you have to do when you dont wear the pants at home.:hail:

How is that answer being a smart ***?!? Because he told you to search? Heaven forbid you help yourself, right?

You don't have to take anything, leave if you don't like it, or can't take a joke or smart-*** remark. If you really want to see smart asses go to www.nethirdgen.org. They know how to be smart asses.

The 'senior' members are here to blow time, get answers and help. I fail to see the whole 'power trip' thing. What I meant by senior member was two fold. 1. I was calling Vader an old bastahd. 2. He is one of the premier members on the site and I think I've only seen one other idiot actually go after him. That didn't end well.

As I said before, if you don't like it, start your own damn board... or you could have acted like an adult and contacted anyone through a PM.

edit: spelling- mornings own me.

Actually, this site is devoted to whatever the owner of this site wishes it to be. You don't have a right to be a jerk-off or dictate what people will respond to.

This strikes me as highly ungrateful. Not only do you get the answer to your question, but then you attack a senior member for suggesting that you search properly?

Go back on your meds...

Summbitch!! It was CAPS LOCK BOY WITH HIS HIGH AND MIGHTY GOVERNMENT JOB THAT REQUIRED TYPING IN CAPS??

Too bad that means he was on those nice early DOS machines and as such was probably even at a lowere level than we all thought.

I think he has tbi, so the problem more likely could have just been carbon build-up since the stock systems didnt exactly run clean. The chiltons used a tbi car as the example for the manual, and all the info is slanted toward tbi, and accurate as well. The funny thing is, not only does the chiltons state which letter cooresponds to what type of valve as well as have detailed descriptions of each, they also have an example of a part number that shows the letter there as well. He must be like me. I never read the instructions or supplied repair info untill I break it or screw up the repair, then I read them .

That's just a sad situation. All I meant was that he could have found out more quickly by using the archives. He posted the question and waited over twelve hours for a reply. I was simply trying to save him some grief. Looks like ede took care of that already.

I was guessing from the profile and signature (which don't quite match) that the engine in question was TPI. Perhaps I shouldn't assume so much, but I'm thinking that 99.99% of Formys and T/As in '92 were TPI. A "Formula TA" might be different, though.

We're all here to learn. Hopefully we've all learned something from this.

may I ask a question here... I appreciate that the search function is there so that we can look up various questions/solutions (and I have used it too!) however surely if some-one know their way around and doesn't mind (which is a very relevant point!) there is no harm in asking... the only reason I say this is that there are a couple of occassions where I have searched for info only not to find it (or to get so much info so as to make it nearly useless) - though I will fully admit that is quite probably down to me not using the search perameters properly rather than an actual fault with the search function

having said the above if someone DOES point out that the search function is available the correct response is to either say 'thanks' or nothing... no point in pissing people off!!!
