really quick manual to auto engine conversion

i have a vin G that was an automatic that im going to put in a camaro that was a vin G T5. i was reading the article on how to do an automatic to t5 swap... and in it, i saw that it requires a pilot bushing. whats the difference btwn the pilot bushing and pilot bearing? do i need both? i know the bearing goes on the block but wheres the bushing go?
Thanks

They are 2 choices of part that do the same thing.

Neither goes on the block. One or the other will be required in the back of the crank however.

A bearing is just that; it's a little roller bearing, that supports the front of the trans gear that the clutch disc sits on. A bushing is the same thing, except it's a bronze bushing, instead of a roller bearing.

Here's what a bearing looks like.

special tool = socket of correct size, but a bushing driver would be the correct tool but the end result would be the same. bearing over bushing any day

Id take a bushing over a bearing any day, that bearing goes to **** and its gonna destroy your clutch, pressure plate, and fly wheel. a bushing is going to just wear loose after a long time. Bushing>bearing.

I agree. Bushings can last a long, long time. And when they get worn, they dont cause catastrophic damage.
