Which year third gens do not have a power steering cooler stock? How were the lines ran, and do you have any pics? Here is a picture for reference.

I don't remember my original V6 having it.

But, after 5 years, the memories are fading.

What angle, where, etc? I may have some saved, if not, I'm going to my car later this morning and can grab some.

That would be great! I just want to see how all the lines connect. Do they simply go from the resevoir to the pump and back without the loop involved? Some pics showing the area similar to the top picture in the link would help me out a lot. I would really appreciate it, thanks!!!

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
My 83 V6 Camaro didn't have it; the 84 Z28 didn't have it; the 86 V6 Firebird SE did have one; and I dunno if the 89 Formula did or not, as the steering box was MIA when I got the car.
It's basically a length of hardline that runs across under the radiator and back in the return line to the pump.

Pete

My 84 LG4 T/A doesn't have one. My friends 87 LG4 Camaro IROC does. I think in 84 the L69 5.0L HO cars got them. I imagine TPI cars got them too.

Its basically a metal pipe mounted under the radiator with standard line clips. The lower pressure return line comes off the steering box, goes under the radiator and loops back, and then goes into the power steering pump return fitting.

Most if not all will have a cooling loop (GM calls it a long return line,) Aftermarket coolers are basically small radiators. Like this one: P/S pump fluid Cooler

My '91 Z's got it..... I think it came on all cars with the quick ratio steering, as that will heat up the hydraulic fluid in the system, hence it would need cooled down. Should be on most performance optioned cars. I don't think I have ever seen one on a V6 car.
PS.... I have it on both of my '87's....the IROC and the Z..
