Bad TPS readings.

I put in a new TPS not too long ago when i was trying to fix another problem I had. Today I decided to test the voltage on my TPS, and no matter how I adjust it, I can't get the voltage higher then about 3.5 v. and thats with the minimum about 1v. if i bring the minimum down to .6volts, my WOT voltage reads 2.5v

thats bad right? should I return it for another?

That isn't necessarily the fault of the TPS. Check the voltage across the TPS from the ECM. You should read 5.0 VDC ± 0.1 VDC. Read that voltage between the 'A' and 'C' terminals at the TPS (the gray and black wires).

If the supply voltage from the ECM is low, the TPS has no way of increasing the signal. Low supply voltage could indicate a problem with the ECM itself, but is more likely due to poor connections at the ECM, including grounding at both the ECM and engine.

thats the way i checked the voltage, was by jumping the wires at the tps itself.

On your throttle body it sounds as if your tour tv cable may be at fault, first try resetting the tv cable by depressing the d button and pulling the kickdown cable flush with the bracket and then turn the tb to wot and you should here 3 clicks. then recheck the tps voltage again and if it is still below 3 volts then readjust the tv cable by advancing it a little. the tb plates will not open fully if not adjusted right and this will cause your low voltage reading, remeber the tps is only giving voltage according to the accelerator position. Hope this helps

Are you doing this with the engine running? I have found that the max voltage you will get from the TPS is a little lower if the engine is off than when it is on.

And do you have five volts across the outer two terminals?
