I was wondering the same thing.
I also have a 92.
My has 16" wheels, quick ratio steering, and 245/50-16 tires, they do not rub.
But I get that popping noise every time the car is moving forward and the steering wheel is at lock.
I have changed the centerlink, idler arm and strut bearing plates. And the noise persists.
Please someone HELP US.
Thanks

It might be your sway bar bushings, or your panhard rod bushings, they may be shot. So you might want to check that.

SS-84,
That popping noise is most likely a crack in the body right where the steering box bolts to the frame. Its a common problem with these cars. Take it to a certified welder and have him close it up for you.

irocbsa--
Thanks for the info, I will check that out this weekend.
If it is the frame that popped, and I have it welded, is there something I can do to make sure it does not happen again or will the weld suffice?

Thanks again.

Yes there is. It's called the wonderbar. The dealer sells it for about 43$. It came on IROC's and 91-92 Z28, I think(please correct me)

Appreciate the info TransAm86.
I will check it out.

Will the dealer know what I am asking for if I ask them for a "Wonderbar"?
