Cooling Problems
Cooling Problems
Ok, here's the story.. When I go up a hill no matter what, it overheats..
When I am going downhill, I can be revving the heck outa it, and it stays @ the same temp.
I am missing the air dam underneath (Have been for months).. Up till now no problems with it..
Any ideas?? Thanks!

No point in going with further diagnosis until you replace the air dam. It is critical. You are putting a load on your engine going uphill just like when you turn on the A/C.

You can get one at the junkyard. We got one off a early 80's Olds Cutlass. It is slightly wider and taller (closer to the ground) than the original. Onle 2 of the 6 bolt holes lined up, but plastic is easy to drill holes in. Bolted right up to the 83 Z for about 5 bucks and a little time and no one has ever mentioned noticing it is different than the original.

Mike is right about the Air deflector. I ran without mine for a couple of days one time and I ran 30degrees hotter. They are very importans. I would start here and just get a new one. There cheap enough.
