Is this a normal sound with an open element?

I just intstalled an open element and it sounds awesome when accelerating but when i let off the accelerator it sounds like a nos blow off valve...is this normal?

Probably not. First of all, are you talking about a blowoff valve for a turbo, or a nitrous purge valve?

My open element does not make any noises...

Its probably just air going through the IAC passage and the throttle blades. I wouldnt sweat it.

It seems to be comming from the passenger side...not sure what it is and im worried....doesnt sound right....



By the way how can a 4 cyl. ford taurus keep up with me? I know I have a LO3 but something isnt right there..

Come to think of it, my 87 does that some times, and i later realized I had a loose vacuum line. Maybe it's just a coincidence that it is happening now?

Maybe you're badly out of tune? That open element sucking in too much hot air? Maybe the tarus has something under the hood? Bad launch?

If its a whistling sound, thats just the throttle blades doing their thing. Your stock air cleaner was basically a 'muffler' for the intake side of the engine. You now have less 'muffler' with the open element air cleaner.
